CRAZY!! Fast Fun Flying my 180mph F5D pylon racer

This is my 800 watt electric powered pylon plane Avionik D-99 I have used in several World Champs. The normal flying course is a large triangle but this is just 'fun flying' it around to show the speed and maneuverability. It was filmed on an especially windy/gusty day but that doesn't really bother you when you are going 180+mph. Very important: Remove wedgie prior to flight ;)

There are many …
There are many models aside from this older Avionik (although the D99 is still a wonderful airframe). Search google for F5D for tons of info. DO NOT attempt to fly one of these without a substantial amount of experience with other very high speed models. You'll cost yourself tons of money and/or kill someone without knowing what you're doing. Troy (the pilot in the video) has been a many time US team member… knows his stuff.

how can i buy one …
how can i buy one of those.
are they expensive?
where can i buy it?
do they sell RTF?

nublihashim @ 12:00 am

very fast indeed

very fast indeed
what motor you use, is it brushed or brushless..

now I like to build one for me

Thanx for the info …
Thanx for the info :) I always wondered how these Little screamers powered planes cornerd.

Generally JR 241's …
Generally JR 241's but now use their 281 digitals. You can also use Dymond D60's in the wings. You don't need huge amounts of torque (20oz/in) since the control surfaces are small and low deflection. Centering and strong geartrain is very important.

coldasiice @ 12:00 am

What kind of sevros …
What kind of sevros do you use,and how much torque do they have?

mikedsilva @ 12:00 am

wicked vid…. …
wicked vid…. since watching this, i have bought a Sokol and am itching to get a F5D plane now…

2916jr @ 12:00 am

but you have to …
but you have to stop and charge batteries

PylonFlyer @ 12:00 am

Yes, we are able to …
Yes, we are able to achieve higher speeds in general with the new generation of lipos but in this class of pylon we have always had a limit on the batteries and that limits the speed/power. The chemistry gets better and we go faster within the same battery rules. The latest set ups are running in the 190+mph flat and level on the course and 10 lap times are now on par with the top gas pylon events.

Number1BSArtist @ 12:00 am

Are you achieving …
Are you achieving higher speeds now with the Li-Polys? Or is the speed envelope more a matter of design at this point where the aircraft is involved?

johnnybravo1979 @ 12:00 am

I get 30 minutes on …
I get 30 minutes on my LiPos - How long can you fly on nitro?

PylonFlyer @ 12:00 am

That's true of …
That's true of Nicads and NiMH but with the newer generation of Lithium Polymers the power is more consistent throughout the flight (flatter voltage under load) and when the power dumps it can be rather quick. This is from about 5 years ago with a Nicad pack.

808FlyBy @ 12:00 am

these electric do …
these electric do turn out a good rate of speed. but the battery life is always on a downward slope!

greatplanesman @ 12:00 am

Hey, don't use …
Hey, don't use metal gears, they will eventually get worn down and have all that slack and it will result in an uncontrollable aircraft. Use carbonite gears. Just replace them after about 10 or so flights. They are cheaper than metal gears, in price.

mexican416 @ 12:00 am

WOOOOW i cant even …
WOOOOW i cant even control a 5 mph electric aiplane, ive broken the wing, tail wing, and cockpit at least 3 times =)

cunnyfunt2 @ 12:00 am

Bloody hell, How …
Bloody hell, How can you control it at that speed? lol

PaulTeesalu @ 12:00 am

Oww. That is fast. …
Oww. That is fast. I even saw you flying in San Diego once. I will be there on march 18 and 19 I think.

PylonFlyer @ 12:00 am

I flew in York in …
I flew in York in 2004 and it rained on us for 2 weeks so not sure I'll be back for any flying competitions ;)

Would be intresting …
Would be intresting to compare this to my flair dara 20 with a race tuned irvine 46 and parc-amber pipe that induces 45% more power! clocked @ 320mph(but in a dive)i can hit close to the record 183.9mph on the flat, i wonder how logn it will before i strip a servo? using metal geard hs-85BB's with metal arms, you ever fly in the uk? Cheers, Craig
