You have to get it …
You have to get it as tight as possible when you glue it on. Then spray it with a little water. When it dries it should tighten up. The dope also will tighten the tissue a bit. Just be careful with the more delicate parts like the tail. If you shrink the tissue more on one side than the other it will cause the piece to warp.

dear thorax i work at a hobbytown usa and yes we sell those things and everything else that you probably wouldnt even know were made to aid in the buildng of these things also the hobbyshop dosnt have to sell kits to have these things

I was considering putting together some video on model construction. I will try to share some of the tricks I wish someone had showed me. As for your materials question, I've never been to a Hobbyloby myself (they're not in my area), but any hobby shop that sells the model kits should have balsa sticks and sheets as well as other building materials.
