Cox .010 powered LA Stick RC plane pics and vids

This is a scratchbuilt RC plane built from plans. Made of balsa wood and covered with Coverite Microlite film. Has a lightweight Berg radio receiver and Hitec micro servos controlling rudder and elevator. Engine is a Cox .010, the smallest engine ever mass produced. I recently purchased this engine which was made in the 60s and refurbished it for flying service. Very fascinating engine, not many people fly them anymore. Mostly sought after by collectors who hoard them up uselessly instead of putting them into the air as they were intended. Run time is about 1.5 minutes on 2cc of 25% nitro glow fuel. Most folks have never seen one of these engines run, much less fly!

Noone's getting too …
Noone's getting too anal here. It's all fun. I agree about the shrinking availability of full kits. Though I'm guilty of owning a couple of ARFs, I do enjoy building planes the old fashioned way. There's more satisfaction in flying those models, for sure. My next build will be an Ultra Sport 60.

Or maybe I'm …
Or maybe I'm finally turning into an old fart.

Somebody makes a throttle for these,, or used to.

carnooba @ 12:00 am

You're right, sorry …
You're right, sorry.

I suppose I'm getting a little sensitive when I see guys come out to the field with an absolutely impeccable Yak and then talk about how they "built" it in a week.

What they did, in fact, was ASSEMBLE a fully built aircraft, built by factory workers in China making a dollar a day.

The result is that those of us who still enjoy building, are offered fewer and fewer, true and proper kits that actually need to be built.

I guess that can make a guy anal.

TBZ,

I'm …
TBZ,

I'm familiar with those names. Been a modeller for 45 years. Along with Ken Willard and Randy Randolph, they are my heroes.

Taking a design and adding your own touches shows a creative spirit that seems to be fading those days. I commend you for your effort and appreciate your sharing it with us.

In the model …
In the model aircraft world people know what these terms mean:

"scratch built" = built from plans and raw materials versus a kit

"kit built" = built from a kit

"Not to get picky"? - totally anal and unnecessary is more like it.

Cool plane, where …
Cool plane, where did you get the plans for it?

TeeBeeZee @ 12:00 am

I guess I stand …
I guess I stand corrected. It's a combination of ideas from the original Littlest Stick designed by Fred Reese, then later modified by Gene Rock and Dave Fritzke, then other mods by myself. It was just easier to say it was scratchbuilt since I cut all the pieces from "scratch" myself. One thing's for sure: You can't please everyone.

carnooba @ 12:00 am

not to get picky …
not to get picky but built from someone else's plans is not scratch built. The person who, from a clean sheet of paper, designed the plane "from scratch" and then built it, is the one who built it from scratch.

A commendable achievement, building this small plane, but you didn't build it from scratch. The original designer did.

Can you let us know who that original designer was? He should get some credit for this, I think.

I have also that …
I have also that motor & it runs great with 40% nitro.

trexflyr @ 12:00 am

Is there anyway you …
Is there anyway you could send me the plans to the model you built? I loved the plane and i am thinking of trying to build something like that on my own to fly. But, i don't know where to get a kit or plans to scratch build one myself. Do you think you could find a website or a link to where i can get a kit or plans for one? I am very interested in the idea of a realy small rc plane like yours!

TeeBeeZee @ 12:00 am

No kit available …
No kit available that I know of. This one was built from plans I found online. There is a provision for ailerons if that is the way you want it but you must be careful to keep the weight down and the engine won't run inverted with the stock tank so I didn't bother.

trexflyr @ 12:00 am

Is there a kit with …
Is there a kit with movable aileroins of this size as well?

trexflyr @ 12:00 am

Do you know where i …
Do you know where i can accuire a kit of the same or simmilar plane in which you where flying? I would love to build and fly one of my very own!!!

trexflyr @ 12:00 am

So cool!
So cool!

TeeBeeZee @ 12:00 am

Not interested in …
Not interested in selling. You should build one. It's not too difficult and the challenge of building/flying is very rewarding.

SteveP120 @ 12:00 am

wow this is a great …
wow this is a great plane that u built i love the design and the color. and its great for quick flights and flying is smaller feilds. any interst in selling it??? well good luck and happy flying

Wow, Nice! I …
Wow, Nice! I thought it was the Das Littlest Skik' as well. Thank you for jarring some youthful memories of the 80's. Good Job.

mazhongsong @ 12:00 am

Great! Good job!
Great! Good job!

Thanks a lot! …
Thanks a lot! That's the impression I was hoping it would give people. The LA Stick is just a slightly modified Littlest Stick. A little tuck here and a nip there. I think it's a tad bit longer too. 21.5" wingspan. You should build it. Lots of fun.

1944GPW @ 12:00 am

That's not 'The …
That's not 'The Littlest Stik' is it? I have the plans somewhere, kept for the last 20 or 30 years - it's the reason I bought an 010! Sadly mine never came to fruition (so far). Yours looks and flies like an angry bumblebee - nice stuff!
