How important is a flywheel to a rc minature two stroke engine?

mine happens to spin freely, i am worried that this may contribute to the engine's unwillingness to function.

The following reply is by : Robert L :
It is vital to have some sort of flywheel. The flywheel stores some of the energy from the power stroke and delivers it to make the compression stroke happen. If it is not possible to re-attach your flywheel, you might be able to get away with the flywheel effect of the propellor (if it is an RC 'plane that is); but it will not run slowly and you will have to spin it fast to get it going.

Google the name of your miniature model, then click on it's engine manual.
