Norvel .15 Diesel, glow plug installed into the contr-piston
Here we have a glow plug installed into a conventional contra-piston. That means that the bottom of the CP is flat unlike the glow version of this device. That version has a semi trumpet head.
In this case, the engine still needed to be overcompressed to start. It behaved much the same as when running on a conventional contr-piston arrangement. Power is down some 500 RPM but idle is somewhat smoother and transition is improved.
Energizing the glow plug while starting from cold didn't help in the least. On ONE occasion, when the engine was quite warm, it did affect a start when otherwise it wouldn't but again, we needed heat in the cylinder for a start. Heat, heat, heat.
