RC engine dieselized Norvel .074
Amazingly, this diesel Norvel RC engine starts with just a spring starter and with no prime required. Just block off the muffler and with a few cranks, it fires up handily. Top end is 11.7K and idle a solid 5K. Prop is an 8 X 4 Cox grey.

I'm using a spring starter. You wind it clockwise and then, let it go,, counterclockwise,,, the correct direction of rotation.
Look at the hub of the prop while I'm cranking it. You can see a clip of wire, that's part of the spring starter.

i had a .40 os and i alway start it backwards and rev it and runs clockwise lol
hes not doing it …
hes not doing it right, rotate it counter clockwise…. not clockwise. there are more chances that it will start up backwards then forwards, and if the engine fires at compression, he could seriously hurt himself.
Dang, can you …
Dang, can you convert regular RC car/truck engines to diesel too? Love to have something like that in my Revo.
is it me or the …
is it me or the propele is running on reverse
I made a diesel …
I made a diesel head to fit. It uses a contr-piston to adjust the compression ratio.
The aircraft is also my own design.
Do a search on Google Video for "Norvel Diesel" to see it fly off of the snow.
1. where do you get …
1. where do you get the parts to dieselize your Norvel .074? Is it just a "plug" or head too?
2. what is the plane you are showing here?
Thanks-

That's photocell …
That's photocell tachometer. As the propeller blade passes by the sensor, it reads the flashes and translates them into an RPM reading.

what's the electronic device being held in front of the engine?
cool, my nitro cars …
cool, my nitro cars and boat use glow plugs but i refer to them as nitro. i always wanted to get ahold of a diesel, i love the way they use no glow plug, instead compression to ignite the fuel.
Yes, most of the …
Yes, most of the engines in my videos are converted from nitro/methanol based fuels. Airplane guys call them Glow engines because they use a glow plug. Diesels don't need a glow plug.
bummer, makes a …
bummer, makes a nice effect though lol, your engine by the way is very cool, was your engine a standard nitro with the head converted?
Yes, the out of …
Yes, the out of sync in the sound is a kink with YouTube. I've asked them about it many times but apparently, it's a glitch that they can't fix.
Thanks, THERMACTOR.
has anyone else …
has anyone else noticed the delay in the sound of the engine firing?

hopeso, very proud of you, excellent work!
Unfortunately, the …
Unfortunately, the Russian made Norvels are no longer in production. Best bet is EBay or the classified ads on RCUniverse.
Not mentioned is that the diesel head for this and all my Norvels are custom made. My fault for not making that point in the original comments.
Hello there. Where …
Hello there. Where I can find this engine to buy ? Tks a lot.
Sorry for the delay …
Sorry for the delay in answering. YouTube doesn't always alert to when there's a comment.
The fuel is 40% kerosene, 40% ether and 20% Klotz Benol, castor oil. About 2% of Amsoil cetane booster is also added.
The tank has a vent line attached to the muffler. This pressurizes the tank. Blocking the muffler while spinning the prop applies a charge of prime to the engine which is a two stroke.

Must be two. So, is it running on gasoline, fuel injected then? Muffler block startup, thats great! Thank you man!

This is a Norvel .074 two stroke glow engine. A custom made diesel head was made for it.
