Why Not to Buy an Evolution Engine
Flying the Hangar 9 Piper Cub at Ft Bend RC Club in Rosenberg, Texas October, 20, 2007. The installed Evolution motor started giving me problems after the 3rd gallon of fuel… Get a Saito, you will be much happier.

I've ran an Evolution 100 for over 2 years without a problem, first in a BH Matrix and then in a Flair Giles (the old pink one) As an expeirenced flyer I can honestly say that most engine problems lay at the feet of the owner.

evolution engines is a crap!
i hate dead stick …
i hate dead stick lol were i fly theres only one way take off and landing i had dead stick with my evolution and crashed into rocks the prop broke and landing gear was bent and that was gay but i will fly again lol look at my video at the end and you will see what i mean but with my classic 40

I did the same…take a look - "Voo Piper J3"

I also use 2.4 GHZ Futaba FAAST. I've heard about the potential for interference between 2.4 GHZ video signal and the Futaba receiver. I see Hobby Wireless dot com now has a 900 MHZ system. I think the hi-res Aiptek is going to great for you. I have an older Aiptek that I used for onboard stuff on my RC cars, but due to the size I have not mounted it on any of my planes.
Thanks cris; check …
Thanks cris; check out latest High into clouds Lake Mead posted 12-10-07. I use an Aiptek SD recorder. I just picked up one HD resolution 1280X720 4 GB SDHC Card at 30fps.. Have not tried it yet. Was recording same as you 640X480 30fps. The 900 MHZ I have on a float plane using the 2.4 GHZ Futaba Faast. Not a good idea to use 2.4 GHZvideo equip with 2.4GHZ Specktrum RX in the same plane.

My setup is very simple, not FPV. I use an ATC 2000 helmet cam which records to an SD card. At 640 X 480 and 30 FPS I can get 2 hours on one 2GB card. I hope to eventually purchase a 900MHZ system with pan / tilt and goggles for FPV with head tracking.

Understood. I had a magnum .52 2 stroke would not run right. No matter what. I exchanged it ok. One OS 91 2 stroke would not idle right. Was "O" ring at carb. Your video is great. Do you fly FPV? goggle
Yes, plenty of fuel …
Yes, plenty of fuel. I usually get 10 - 12 minutes per tank, dead stick happened at about the 3 min mark. I have 27 years experience tuning two strokes, and had been working with this one without any luck for quite a while. It ran great for the first 3 gallons then became very unreliable.
chris; I have Piper …
chris; I have Piper Cub with onboard Camera system. 91 magnum 4 stroke runs great! even slow. magnum need extensive run in. Evo though I have too no problems with evo engines here. Great recovery! dead sticks do happen. For tuning do not neglect the low speed mixture. I am sure you have fix the problem.
dumb question? Did you have enoough fuel ?
I have flied Cub …
I have flied Cub with Evolution Engine over 5 gallons without problems. With Saito I have been more problems…many times my Piper landing like glider
Thanks, but I think …
Thanks, but I think I just got lucky. Did you notice the wind sock? This was a downwind landing!
good job
good job
I had flown only a tank thru my Piper Cub with the Evolution .46 in it. The prop spun off the shaft in flight and the engine overheated. My bad for not checking tightness but even though I shut the engine down quickly, it burned out the bearings. In my experience, most 2 cycles can withstand this abuse.
