Zivi Nedivi a Israeli Air Force Pilot landed a F-15 with 1 wing after it collided with an A -4 Skyhawk in midair

Nedivi didn't know he lost his wing until he landed because the Skyhawk hit the fuel tank and it blinded his vision on the right side

the gyro would not …
the gyro would not do any better for him because all the gyro does is practically fly the plane while it is vertical, once it is flying horizontally it would probably hinder his flight since the gyro is trying to put it into a vertical position.
