ParkZone Super Decathlon: An Adventure in eBay Purchasing
This movie documents my first flights of a ParkZone Super Decathlon radio controlled (RC) airplane I purchased on eBay. When the box arrived at my house, it looked like the courier had stomped on it. Inside, the tail section was completely obliterated. I tried to refashion the control surfaces so they would be as smooth as possible, and I had to purchase several replacement parts to get it even remotely close to flyable. Unfortunately, it's aerodynamics are lost. Not only does it have trouble maintaining altitude, it's also extremely unstable. This movie was shot in a field in San Jose, CA (9/10/2006).

That's funny…the same image came to mind for me when I saw my crushed, disfigured Decathlon on the front porch. 8^)
i HAVE ORDERED AN …
i HAVE ORDERED AN ABSOLUTE TON OF STUFF OFF EBAY AND NEARLY EVERY UPS DELIVERY WAS DAMAGED !! WHERE AS USPS I HAVE YET TO HAVE A SINGLE PROBLEM.
I ALWAYS THINK OF THE OPENING OF THE 'PET DETECTIVE MOVIE' WHEN I HEAR THEM COMING…OR I HEAR MY PACKAGE SLAM AGAINST THE FRONT DOOR AND PORCH!
I ALWAYS EXPECTED ALOT MORE FROM A COMPANY LIKE UPS BUT AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED I WISH NOBODY SENT ME DELIVERIES THRU THEM.
UPS STINKS !!! USE USPS..EVERYTIME!
this is a piece of …
this is a piece of shit. Do not buy this!
I have one and it has never ever flown.
I have no doubts …
I have no doubts that the Decathlon can be decent plane. I'm pretty sure I just got stuck with a lemon. I had it borderline flyable at one point, but I didn't secure the endcaps to the wing tiedown rods well enough during one of my repairs. The rubber bands went springing off of the wing mid-flight and dealt a devasting blow to my Decathlon. I could never repair it just right after that. I subsequently purchased a Stryker and haven't flown the Decathlon since then.
I have had a …
I have had a Decathlon for about a year and love it. I do loops, slow and low. I learned on it and had to rebuild it 3 time all due to "pilot error" I fly it on lunch breaks almost every day. I took off the landing gear and wing struts, and just belly land it.
lol. I hate to …
lol. I hate to laugh, but we only got one flight out of our pos from ebay and my son waited months to fly it too. He got it for Christmas.
The real funny part is I got him two more this year… from ebay. Great video by the way.
I have a pz …
I have a pz spitfire and I have to say this thing is absolute SHIT!! Don't let the bird get in the sun to long because they will start to fall apart. The second I opened the box I new I had been taken. how much did it cost pz to make this thing 25 cents. get a hangar 9 bird which is what I should've done
The plane isn't …
The plane isn't completely destroyed yet. It still functions, but it doesn't stay in the air for very long, because it behaves like the center of gravity is off-center. (Maybe because the battery cage is busted and the battery is loose in the fuselage.) We've considered mounting a rocket to the fuselage for jet assist propulsion to give it a final farewell.
The airplane is …
The airplane is distroy and now? The airplane in the fire to distroy?
I'm not too bummed …
I'm not too bummed about it, considering the plane got crushed to death while in transit to my house. I mainly bought it as a training plane to get me from my Firebird Outlaw to my F-27C Stryker. I never really got any real training time with the Decathlon, but I guess I learned not to buy a used plane on eBay.
Don't feel bad. …
Don't feel bad. The PZ Super Decathlon is a piece of garbage.
Just to be clear, I own the PZ P-51D (nice plane), Spitfire Mk IIB (FANTASTIC bird), eFlite P-47D (suh-weet), and an Aerobird Challenger for fun. I fly all of these with no problems.
By contrast the Decathlon never trims out, and acts almost like its CG is off. But it's not.
Oh, yeah, and it just loves to eject its battery.
It's the only plane I've tried to return.
I'm not sure …
I'm not sure whether this comment was intended to inspire me to fly again or discourage me from ever flying again. Whatever the sentiment, thanks taking the time to comment.

I wish I had taken …
I wish I had taken a picture of the box when it arrived at my house. It looked like somebody sat on it. The whole tail section of the plane was crushed. Eventually, UPS did the right thing and paid for the damage though.
LOL!!! oops=UPS …
LOL!!! oops=UPS that happend to us with a Very Nice Air worthy Propellor. We Swore Ups Chucked it on the porch, they had destroyed the box and broke/cracked the end of the propellor making it un-airworthy
i got that plane …
i got that plane from a store and it flys great.
If you can adapt it …
If you can adapt it to fly the Atlantic I'll be interested, as you know the Post has a checkered history. Keep trimming and I'd love to see the sequel.

Are you sure you …
Are you sure you want a J3? I've got a Super Decathlon I'd be willing to sell you. 8^)
Good clean fun, but …
Good clean fun, but try trimming it before major flights. Rebuild the tail and if in trouble, shut off the power. I'll be buying a J3 from eBay in the new year and hope to have more success.
You had too much up …
You had too much up elevator trim on the first flight, and you just plainly suck at flying =P
